In a mobile home just off the Brazos River in Millsap, Texas, little Shelby Rae began her singing career, preforming homespun shows for family and neighbors. At 7, she would take her show on the road — when her family built a house about an hour south in Dublin. There, near extended family and in their small, local church, Gospel music grafted into her bones. A young Shelby would also learn to play piano. But she soon realized that her real passion was for the dulcet tones and story-bearing capabilities of the guitar, following in her Great Uncle’s, and Father’s footsteps.
At the age of 10, she began writing her own songs, and Two years later, she found herself in the Texas Hill Country, where she sang in choir and continued honing her 6-string skills, writing songs late into the nights in her room. After years of posting her performances on the socials, Marshall decided it was time to take the show out of the room and onto the stage. After all, “it’s alright to be a little Honky’er than the rest.”
